At Anchor in Buen Suceso (“Good Succession”) Bay!

This morning we arrived to Bahia Buen Suceso, across the the Lemaire Straight from Isla de los Estados.  We had some spare time since we had to wait for the right tide to cross the Lemaire straight, so we stopped in this bay to wait.  The scientists wanted to take a chance to see if they could find some species of tiny spiders which are not yet identified in these areas.  Its good we stopped, as the quick shore expedition was a big success!!

The goal of this whole expedition is to find new spider species.  Apparently, on this short, and unplanned jaunt to shore, they found what they were looking for. They found something which is just 2 mm big, so they need more analysis, but the scientists are very happy!

Also during the day,  we landed on the beach and visited the Naval station, where 4 men and a woman spend 45 days at a time controlling the traffic on these waters. They invited us for lunch and we had a great time!

We also explored the beach and discovered a deep cave around 10 meters long –very interesting –and dark! Tomorrow we’ll continue towards Isla de los Estados.

The Bay has lived up to its name!

Pictures soon!
